Xihu
of Hangzhou
XiHu(the West Lake) is a beautiful scenic spot and is also the growing
area of the world famous Longjing(Dragon Well) tea. Xihu tea gardens
have a long history of plantation, Record has it that in Tang Dynasty,
two Buddhist monasteries - Tianzhusi and Lingyinsi owned their own
tea gardens. The famous poet Su Dongpo(1037-1101) had the lines:
“Two new flags under cloud-shouded peak I see So green and always
fresh, the tea as bathed in spring rain.”
A folklore states that when the Qing emperpor Qianlong(reigned 1736-1795)
in one of his six tours to many places south of the Yangtze, he
was entertained with the Dragon-Well tea. The fragrance of the tea
provoked the royal interest so that he named the eighteen tea tree
planted there the “Imperial Tea”, The royal patronage doubled the
reputation of Drgon-Well tea.
Jiangxi
Wuyuan
Wuyuan is the north eastern mountainous district in Jiangxi Province
has been a growing district of tea for export. Wu-Lǚ(Wuyuan Green)
had been a chief species in the export in 17th and 18th centuries.
A new type of processed tea – Zhu Lan Cha Jing(essence of Pearly-orchid
tea, famous since centuries ago) resumed production recently made
from Wu- Lǚ tea and pearly-orchid flower. Tea plantation mountains
in this area are Wulongshan(five dragon mountain)Shier-shan(five
dragon mountain), Juli shan, Zhang-gongshan and Gaohushan. When
one travels along the River Xi one can see tea gardens dotted on
both sides of the river all the way long.
